WTC Steel
Project Summary
The WTC Steel
Foundation is the culmination of several years of work on the part of
students and staff at Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. As
a city that was created to help end World War II, Oak Ridge was honored
to receive artifacts from Ground Zero to build a memorial on our campus.
The monument for the victims of September 11th’s terrorist
attacks was unveiled and dedicated on the first anniversary of the
attacks.
Now, with the
help of the charitable foundation, Oak Ridge High School wants to share
a tangible reminder of this attack with the nation. The students' dream
is to have a uniform plaque, with a cross section of the remaining
column
attached, placed in every capital city. Each state can choose whether to
place the plaque inside the capitol building, outside on the capitol
grounds, or on a high school campus in the capital city. The memorials
are to be provided to each state at no cost save for additional
materials each state decides to use to appropriately display the
plaques.
Throughout the
process, Oak Ridge High School students have been involved in making
decisions and carrying out the operations of this project. Schools
across the nation can join them, now, to make this national project a
national educational experience.
