WE NEED YOUR HELP The Student Council of Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and the US Army Corps of Engineers have dedicated one steel column that has been divided into 52 pieces to be donated to each of the capital locations. The segments of the column are incorporated into a plaque to be placed in or at the capitol building in each state or in a school in each capital city. Each plaque will cost approximately $3,500 to build and distribute. 100% of donations will go to construction and distribution of the plaques and promoting the idea in the media and with legislatures. This complete dedication of funds to the actual work is possible because the work of the Foundation will be carried out by its officers, board members, and students and staff of Oak Ridge Schools, all on a volunteer basis. If a state chooses to display the plaque outside, all the plaques are galvanized to protect them from the weather and to give the steel a uniform appearance. With an outdoor display addition money will be needed to build a foundation and provide a granite block for mounting the plaque.
